Out of Focus: March 2025

Written by Tommy Delp

The year marches on as The Focus Theater enters the month of March. We have plenty of shows and events that are sure to be music to your ears!

Most importantly, spring classes are live! Whether your into stand-up or improv, we have something for you, including our brand new Level 3 course focusing on the "Harold." Registration closes on Saturday, March 29th.

Checking out this month's shows, things kick off on Friday, March 7th, with “Conspiracy Council.” Headed by lead conspiracist, Zoey Jodon, this show will see 5 special guests pitch their own personal conspiracy theories, with the audience favorite being crowned as canonically true!

The next night, on Saturday, March 8th, ”JFT and Friends” returns. John Forrest Thompson is back with more Chicago-style improv and a new group of performers.

On Friday, March 14th, celebrate Pi Day with “Revolt,” Rochester’s queer variety showcase!

At 7:00 PM, catch an all-ages performance, with programming aimed at kids, teens, and families. Then, at 8:30 PM, stick around for an 18+ encore, featuring burlesque performances and other more explicit material. Buy a ticket to both and receive a special discount.

On Saturday, March 15th, Nerds in a Basement are back, but this time they’re in space! These plucky adventurers combine the spontaneity of improv comedy with the excitement of tabletop role-playing games.

The weekend after that, on Friday, March 21st, come hang out with your friendly neighborhood Artistic Council at their seasonal show, “The Council of the Arts.” They’ll be joined by RIT Improv’s own BrainWreck Improv!

On Saturday, March 22nd, catch up with some of your favorite improvisors here at The Focus Theater during "The Improv Plate." Anyone can perform as a part of this FREE community show!

The last weekend of March starts with “The Monoscene Grad Show” on Friday, March 28th. The show’s featured players have been practicing throughout the month of March under the tutelage of Eno Okung and are all excited to perform for you!

Finally, the month wraps up with two events on Saturday the 29th.

In the afternoon, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, check out “Yes, And With Music,” a workshop hosted by Kat Kuo. This free event gives musicians and comedy improvisers an opportunity to learn and play together.

In the evening, join Guilt & Mirrors for “The Christening.” The long-running troupe of Rochester-based comediennes will be returning to the theater with a brand new member!

Peeking into April, The Focus theater will go dark on Friday, April 4th and Saturday, April 5th, for RIT Improv’s Improvamonium. This yearly improv comedy festival will feature plenty of folks from the theater along with numerous other improvisers from colleges and universities across Western New York.

No matter what you’re into, we’ve got something to keep you dancing! Stay tuned for more exciting events and shows here at The Focus Theater.
